Getting here
On Belair Road between Perry Hall and Fallston, right where the highway crosses the Big Gunpowder Falls. If you can find the state park, you can find the Lodge.

After the trail
The Big Gunpowder Falls trailhead parking for the park's Central Area sits directly across Route 1. Belair Road moves fast, so the smart play is to drive across rather than cross on foot. Finishing the Sweathouse Branch loop? The Lodge is the first stop across the highway.
Trails across the road
Five marked trails start from that lot. Dogs on a leash are welcome out there, a different rule than ours inside. No entrance fee and no reservation, same as our own lot. Lengths below are rough; grab a trail map from Maryland DNR before you head out.
- Big Gunpowder Trail (white). Runs along the river, easy grade, roughly 9.5 miles one way.
- Sweathouse (yellow) to Stocksdale (blue) loop. About 4 miles round trip, moderate.
- Wildlands Trail (pink). Connects Stocksdale through the Sweathouse Branch Wildlands. No bikes on this stretch.
- Lost Pond Trail. A short loop south of the bridge, a mile or two.
Parking
Free lot on site.
Good to know
Pet policy: no dogs, sorry, but service animals are always welcome. Big groups should call ahead so we can set the tables.
